OUAT Alumni Association
On 24h August, 1962, the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, the 2nd Agricultural University in the Country and the 2nd University in the State of Orissa was born in the capital city of Bhubaneswar. It was on this historical day, the Legendary Late Biju Patnaik, the then Chief Minister of Orissa laid the foundation stone of this University in the presence of Late Professor Galbreath, the then U. S. Ambassador to India. Later the University was renamed after renaming of the State, to Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology. In the meantime, the University has completed 60 years of its journey in imparting Education, Research and Extension activities in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary, Fishery, Forestry, Horticulture and Community Sciences. Thereby, as an SAU, it has played a pivotal role in the development of the State in Agriculture and allied sectors.
The OUAT Alumni Association carved into existence as a Registered Body, in the year 2006, by the efforts of its founder President, Dr. Satyananda Swain (Former Dean, CAET, Bhubaneswar) along with other elected and devoted members of the 1st Executive Body. Although the OUAT Alumni Association was registered, it remained dormant for a long time. During the year 2011, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research informed all the State Agriculture Universities (SAUs) of the country to form Alumni Associations at their respective universities. As a result, the then Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Dr. D. P.Ray and the Dean of Students' Welfare, Dr. Buddhadev Mishra, initiated certain steps; those were instrumental in forming an elected executive body. During the tenure of the 2nd Executive Body, the Association got revitalized commencing from the Golden Jubilee celebration of the OUAT, in the year 2012. Dr. Basudev Mishra was the President along with Dr. R. N.Patnaik, Mr. K. C. Aich, Dr. Snehalata Nanda and Mr. Rajiv Giri, as the Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Joint-Secretary respectively. This Executive Body undertook various activities such as preparation of official a Logo, proposal of a official website, and holding a General Body Meeting on the 9th June 2013. It also convened two lecture series graced by Prof. Dr. Baidyanath Mishra (An Eminent Economist & Former Vice-Chancellor of OUAT) and Dr.Trilochan Mohapatra (Former Director, CRRI & the present Director General of ICAR) during this occasion. The Association is indebted to Prof. Dr. Ray, for his help in providing furnished accommodation for running Association office. Association is also thankful to Prof. M. R. Kar, former Vice-Chancellor who had extended all types of help and assistance as and when required during his tenure.
The 3rd Executive Body was formed headed by Dr. Santosh Kumar Rout (Former Dean of Extension Education, OUAT) as the President of the Association with his vibrant team of executive committee members. This Executive Body was instrumental in reactivating the defunct official website, which got inaugurated by Prof. S. Pasupalak, the then Vice-Chancellor on the 27th December, 2016. Prof. Pasupalak also extended all necessary help and assistance for the proper growth and development of the Association. This Executive Body had the privilege to felicitate Dr. Damodar Rout one of the senior OUAT alumni (the then Cabinet Minister of Odisha) on 30th May 2017.
The 4th Executive Body which is operating at present was formed and again headed by Dr. Basudev Mishra as its President. Dr. Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Dr. Susen Kumar Panda, Dr. Debaraj Lenka, Dr. Narayan Sahoo remained as Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Joint Secretary respectively and catering vibrantly to the objectives of the Association. Several noteworthy activities are underway like development of a Database of all OUAT Alumni, designing and launching of a much advanced Alumni Website, holding Alumni Meets regionally in three districts of Odisha and many more.
The OUAT Alumni Association aims at reaching out its each and every individual member with a sense of one family and to contribute towards the growth and development of the agriculture and allied sectors of the state of Odisha.
